US-based JumpCloud hacked by North Korean gov't group to loot crypto firms

North Korean government-backed hacking group Labyrinth Chollima was responsible for last month’s attack against US-based tech company JumpCloud in an attempt to gain access to its clientele of crypto firms, Reuters reports. Last week, JumpCloud first announced that a “sophisticated nation-state sponsored threat actor” had gained unauthorized access to its systems and targeted a “small and specific set” of customers. JumpCloud sells software to authorize and manage users across devices for major firms, but a spokesperson said that less than five customers were affected. Thodex ex-CEO jailed for 7.5 months in Turkey

Faruk Fatih Özer, the founder and CEO of Thodex, a defunct crypto exchange in Turkey, has been imprisoned after failing to provide the necessary tax documents to the country’s Tax Inspection Board. The Turkish crypto boss was deported from Albania last year after fleeing his country and was arrested in Istanbul on April 20. According to a report by Hürriyet Daily News, Özer was sentenced to seven months and 15 days in prison at the Anatolian 17th Criminal Court of First Instance. The SEC’s official calendar now shows BlackRock’s application will be published in the Federal Register, starting a 21-day public comment period. On the docket BlackRock’s application to launch a spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) has been added to the SEC docket as part of the proposed rule change process.  This latest development, recorded on July 13, represents a significant milestone for the Bitcoin-related proposal currently being screened by the SEC.
