Mango Markets Hacker: The Biggest Heist in Crypto History?

Avraham Eisenberg is facing civil claims from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Securities and Exchange Commission, and Mango Markets, as well as criminal charges from the DoJ.

In the United States, the case against the crypto user who is thought to be behind a multimillion-dollar scam on the decentralized exchange Mango Markets will move forward, and a hearing is set for Dec. 4.

Judge Richard Berman of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York set Avraham Eisenberg’s trial date for December 4, according to documents filed in court on June 14. Eisenberg was blamed for a big Mango Markets hack in October 2022, which led to the theft of about $116 million in the governance token MNGO, USD Coin, and Marinade Staked SOL (mSOL).

Eisenberg has pleaded not guilty to three charges linked to the Mango Markets scam: commodities fraud, manipulation of commodities, and wire fraud. In October 2022, the platform said that he had returned about $67 million of the funds. At the time, the crypto user said that his actions were legal because they were part of a “highly profitable trading strategy.”

Lawyers from the U.S. Attorney’s Office and Eisenberg’s defense team have until June 22 to file motions about the plan before the trial. He is also being sued in civil court by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and Mango Markets. These suits were all filed in January.

The accused Mango Markets abuser hasn’t posted on Twitter since December 2022, when he was arrested in Puerto Rico and sent to Oklahoma. After giving up his right to bail at a hearing in February, he has mostly been held in U.S. custody.
